Op-Ed: Do you Remember?...The Injustice that took Breonna Taylors Life

It is September 21st, and instead of thinking about Earth, Wind, & Fire; we get breaking news of the Louisville mayor declaring a state of emergency order in preparation the grand jury decision of the police officers to be charged for murder of Breonna Taylor. Just when we thought that Louisville, Kentucky couldn't get any lower, they outdo themselves once again. This time it is in the form of indirectly telling the public a decision before it is made.

For some backstory, based from the various information I gathered from CNN and other news, the Louisville police department was knee deep in an ongoing Narcotics investigation for an alleged Crack dealer named Jamarcus Glover; Breonna Taylor's boyfriend. Taylor was soundly asleep until the police used a battering ram at late hours in the night. There was a barrage of gunfire, which left Taylor fatally wounded in her own apartment. What made this things worse was that the police actually mistook Taylor and her residence and murdered her in her sleep.

This, along with other stories, made the recent great pandemic protests of 2020 come to full swing in mid April and late May. The people of Louisville, and now the rest of the world have become vigilant for the policemen that had to do with the incident. Flash forward to today September 21st, it is the story of whether or not the men involved with the murder of Breonna Taylor will be charged with anything. The way the city of Louisville is going about this situation with the escalation of taking vacation time away to get man power to help with protection of the city after the verdict says all that needs to be said. Which is they are probably acquitting these men of no fault for: choosing the wrong house, shooting first and asking later, and not taking fault for what happened. Which is the real reason they will potential see the chaos they prepare for now. This along with the police wanting to get Glover to admit to being a drug dealer to lessen the blame for what happened to Taylor.

This injustice will definitely leave a bad taste people know all to well. They claim justice is blind but fair, however it is definitely able to see the wrongs everyone else does in this situation like many others. It is news like this that make it hard for people of color to not become vengeful towards people in the majority and non marginalized. This ethical and mental frustration to keep your head up amongst all of this death and fear of being the next victim. This all while being expected to not be a "race victim" and not blame the same people who have done this to your people. It is very conflicting and I hope that people my color see peace in their hearts and minds alike. Stay strong and lets try to remember dancing in September is a good feeling; we all feel the same way good and bad.
