Spike Lee has done it again; this time with Nate Parker driving the wheel. After the feature film, Nat Turner coming out to shock the country, as well as the rape allegations back at Penn State resurfacing Nate left the spotlight for a while. Now back with the initial trailer of his new film with critics calling it manipulative garbage on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the interesting thing is that the public is responding positively to the film finally getting a release. Here is the trailer and the Twitter reactions below:
Directed and starring Nate Parker after the fall out of the rape scandal following the other controversial film "Nat Turner"; yet another film comes into a controversial spotlight taking on a new, and alas other timeless topic Black people face today...Police Brutality. Other than Queen & Slim, Crash, and Malcolm X, Black cinema has not touched or been allowed the chance to express the dark and buried issues we experience as citizens of this country. This film comes to bring to a light a less talked about situation that we feel and others are scared of...revenge.
Lincoln "Linc" Jefferson, a retired Marine who was pulled over for a traffic stop with his son and watches as his son is murdered by an officer for recording them during the said stop. Linc is scorned as a result and takes on vigilante methods and storming the police station that killed his son after the department dismissing the case as a mistake with not enough evidence to charge the officer; all while he had others in the cause recording. The rest of the preview was aesthetically pleasing with the reversing of roles in a trial, the interrogation tactic we see in most gritty crime dramas, and cops scared and helpless like most Black people who were victims of the murders we witness every day.
The TL is PANDEMONIUM right now.
