TWITTER- It is September 14th and people have sarcastically said their final goodbyes to the legendary book series' "Harry Potter" and "Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them" author J.K. Rowling. These goodbyes seem to come from her new book under a pen name Robert Galbraith called "Troubled Blood", a fictional crime novel about a cross dressing male serial killer and people are not too pleased about it. In response to Rowling's announcement, people have made said hashtag " #RIPJKROWLING " as a display of seeing this may be her final nail in the coffin. Although the pandemonium seems to be newfound, this not the first time Rowling has come to attract this attention.
Earlier this summer, an ongoing dispute between some fans and people arise at large from her comments in tweet rants expressing her reaction to an opinion piece about equality with "people who menstrate". Heres The Independent article showing the actor who played Harry Potter speaking on JK's comments. Rowling tweeted: "If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth."
People have accused Rowling of transphobia through her depicting of the transgendered characters she writes in her books as aggressive and she furthers these accusations with her denomination of showing why she feels that inclusion of sex is important for the sake of women being seen as equal. Throughout all of the tweets I have read and skimmed through my time doing coverage on this topic, I have seen most people more upset not at the statement itself. Instead, they were more upset at how condescending her rhetoric is when speaking on these topics. Some people have dismissed these claims as a desperate plea for a need to "Cancel" someone and see this book as harmless through her desire for women's rights. Others see this as a bigger issue that stems from previous encounters with the same statements of passive aggressiveness towards the Trans community.
Overall, the reason for this outrage is from all of the work JK has come to write about. The inequalities, the fights for social justice, etc. the characters do in her books; make her seem as a hypocrite in real life. Now the fate of JK Rowling is still in the air, so be sure to keep up with QualityContent to hear the resolution and ultimate fate of Rowling's career.
